Online cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon consultation
Cardio-thoracic and vascular surgery (CTVS) covers operations on the heart, lungs, chest and blood vessels – bypass surgery, valve surgery, and treatment of varicose veins and blocked arteries. At VRA Health you can consult a CTVS surgeon online to understand whether surgery is needed, the options, and what recovery involves.
Our CTVS surgeon
Your consultation is with a super-specialist cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon:
- Dr. Harsha Vardhan N – MCh CTVS, AIIMS New Delhi
Conditions we help with
- Second opinions on advised bypass (CABG) or valve surgery
- Choosing between stenting and bypass surgery, together with your cardiologist
- Heart valve disease, including rheumatic heart disease
- Varicose veins and venous ulcers
- Blocked leg arteries and pain in the legs on walking
- Aortic aneurysm
- Lung and chest wall conditions needing surgery
- Recovery and wound care after heart or chest surgery
What an online consultation can and cannot do
It can: review your angiogram, echo, CT and other reports, explain whether surgery is advisable and which type, discuss risks and recovery, and give a second opinion.
It cannot: examine you physically, perform any test or procedure, or manage chest pain or other emergencies.
How to prepare
- Angiogram, echocardiogram, ECG, CT and Doppler reports (and CDs or images if available)
- Your cardiologist's notes and advice
- A list of all your medicines, including blood thinners
- Discharge summaries from previous admissions or operations
Second opinions and patients outside India
Many families use VRA Health for a second opinion before a major decision, or to consult a CTVS surgeon they trust from abroad. You can share reports, scans and discharge summaries before the call, and the doctor will go through them with you in plain language. A second opinion before major heart surgery is common and sensible. Medicines prescribed by a doctor in India may need a prescription from a local doctor before a pharmacy outside India will dispense them.
When to go to a hospital instead
Online consultations are not for emergencies. Go to a hospital at once for chest pain or pressure, sudden breathlessness, sudden severe tearing pain in the chest or back, fainting, or a leg that suddenly becomes painful, cold and pale. After surgery, seek care urgently for fever with wound discharge or bleeding. In India call 108 (ambulance) or go to the nearest hospital; abroad, call your local emergency number.
