Online nephrologist consultation
Nephrology is the specialty for kidney disease. At VRA Health you can consult a nephrologist online about raised creatinine, protein or blood in the urine, chronic kidney disease, kidney stones that keep coming back, high blood pressure linked to the kidneys, dialysis, or life after a kidney transplant.
Kidney care is largely about reading reports and adjusting medicines over time, which works well over video. Regular online follow-up can save long trips to a hospital clinic.

Our kidney specialists hold super-specialty degrees (DM) in nephrology or equivalent US training:

- Dr. Naveen Kumar Mattewada – DM Nephrology, JIPMER Puducherry
Conditions we help with
- Raised creatinine or reduced eGFR on a blood test
- Chronic kidney disease (CKD) – slowing it down and managing its effects
- Kidney disease due to diabetes or high blood pressure
- Protein or blood in the urine, swelling of the face or legs
- Recurrent kidney stones – finding the cause and preventing new ones
- Planning for dialysis, and follow-up for patients on dialysis
- Follow-up after a kidney transplant
- Medicine doses when kidney function is reduced
What an online consultation can and cannot do
It can: review your kidney function tests, urine reports and scans, explain your CKD stage, adjust blood pressure and diabetes medicines, advise on diet and fluids, and plan further tests.
It cannot: perform dialysis or a kidney biopsy, examine you physically, or replace urgent hospital care.
How to prepare
- Creatinine/eGFR, urea, electrolyte and urine test reports, with dates
- Ultrasound or other kidney scan reports
- Home blood pressure and blood sugar readings
- A list of all your medicines, including painkillers and supplements
Second opinions and patients outside India
Many families use VRA Health for a second opinion before a major decision, or to consult a nephrologist they trust from abroad. You can share reports, scans and discharge summaries before the call, and the doctor will go through them with you in plain language. Medicines prescribed by a doctor in India may need a prescription from a local doctor before a pharmacy outside India will dispense them.
When to go to a hospital instead
Online consultations are not for emergencies. Go to a hospital at once if you pass very little or no urine, have swelling with breathlessness, chest pain, confusion or drowsiness, severe pain in the side with fever, or very high blood pressure with headache or blurred vision. In India call 108 (ambulance) or go to the nearest hospital; abroad, call your local emergency number.
