Online pediatric surgeon consultation

Pediatric surgeons operate on babies, children and teenagers. At VRA Health you can consult a surgeon online about a hernia or swelling in the groin, undescended testis, tongue-tie, a lump, a birth defect found on a scan, or whether an operation advised for your child is really needed.

A video consultation helps you understand the problem, the right timing for surgery and what recovery involves, before you visit a hospital.

Our surgeons

You can consult a specialist pediatric surgeon or a general surgeon:

Conditions we help with

  • Inguinal and umbilical hernias, hydrocele
  • Undescended testis and phimosis
  • Tongue-tie
  • Lumps and swellings in children
  • Birth defects found on a pregnancy scan, and planning surgery after birth
  • Urinary problems such as hydronephrosis and reflux
  • Constipation that may have a surgical cause
  • Recovery questions after a child's operation

What an online consultation can and cannot do

It can: review photos, videos and scans, tell you whether and when surgery is needed, explain the operation and recovery, and give a second opinion.

It cannot: examine your child by touch, perform any procedure, or manage a surgical emergency.

How to prepare

  • Clear photos of any swelling or lump, ideally when it is most visible
  • Ultrasound and other scan reports, including antenatal scans if relevant
  • Your child's weight and any medical conditions
  • Previous operation notes or discharge summaries

Second opinions and patients outside India

Many families use VRA Health for a second opinion before a major decision, or to consult a pediatric surgeon they trust from abroad. You can share reports, scans and discharge summaries before the call, and the doctor will go through them with you in plain language. Medicines prescribed by a doctor in India may need a prescription from a local doctor before a pharmacy outside India will dispense them.

When to go to a hospital instead

Online consultations are not for emergencies. Go to a hospital at once if a baby has green vomiting or a swollen, tender belly, if a groin or scrotal swelling becomes painful, hard or red, if a child swallows a button battery or magnets, or has severe abdominal pain. In India call 108 (ambulance) or go to the nearest hospital; abroad, call your local emergency number.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a pediatric surgeon treat?

Surgical problems in babies and children - hernias, hydrocele, undescended testis, tongue-tie, lumps, birth defects, urinary tract problems and many others.

Can a pediatric surgeon help online?

Yes. The surgeon can review photos, videos and scans and advise whether surgery is needed and when. Your child will be examined in person before any operation.

Does every hernia in a child need surgery?

Groin (inguinal) hernias in children usually need repair because they can get stuck. Many belly-button hernias close on their own. The surgeon will advise on timing.

When should an undescended testis be operated on?

Usually between 6 and 18 months of age. Consult a pediatric surgeon if a testis has not come down by 6 months.

My baby's pregnancy scan showed a problem. Can I consult before birth?

Yes. A pediatric surgeon can explain the finding and help you plan delivery and care after birth.

Can patients outside India consult?

Yes. Slot times are shown in your local time zone, and you can share scans from any centre.
